Should Oakland Voters Have A Say on DIA Tax?

Oakland County commissioners vote Thursday morning on whether to put on the Aug. 7 ballot questions about a property tax for the Detroit Institute of Arts and whether a three-county authority should run it.

 Macomb and Wayne counties have already put the question on their ballots.

 Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson says county commissioners should let the public decide whether it wants a tax to support the DIA. 

“They’re not voting on the tax, they’re voting on putting the question on the ballot to let the public decide if they want to raise a tax,” Patterson said. “I say let the public decide, so I’m going to encourage the board to at least put the question on the ballot.
