Take Off: Pontiac to Chicago for $109, Starting In June

Metro Detroit is gaining a new Lake Michigan-hopping air carrier in three months. Carol Cain drops the news in herr Freep business column.

Saab turboprop has 30 seats.

Lakeshore Express Aviation is moving from Chicago's Midway to Oakland County International Airport as its home base. . . .

It will allow Lakeshore Express, a charter service that sells tickets individually, to tap into an even bigger potential market of underserved travelers between metro Detroit and Chicago.

Starting June 7, Lakeshore Express will begin regular flights from Oakland to Midway. Tickets will be priced $109 each way (it will offer a $99 starting price the first month of service).

For that, passengers get free drinks and no baggage fees.

It's a one-hour flight.

Lakeshore has one plane, a Saab 30-seat turboprop, so calling it an airline would stretch the word now. And don't plan of lugging more than one checked bag and one carry-on "due to space and weighgt limitations," its website says.
