The "Sugar Man" saga continues: Sixto Rodriguez, WSU Class of '81, returns to campus next month for an honorary doctorate. Kim Mkozlowski as details in The Detroit News:

The university promotes its world-famous alumnus with a one-minute video (below) about his time on camus "before the documentary." That's a reference to "Search for Sugar Man," the Oscar-winning film about Rodriguez's obscure 1970 and 1971 folk rock albums and his rediscovery by fans in South Africa, where several of his songs had become anti-apartheid anthems,

The singer-songwriter, who earned a philosophy degree at Wayne, won't perform at commencement.

A university spokesman tells The News why he'll be a VIP guest in three weeks:

"A lot of people at Wayne are inspired by his story, his work ethic and humbleness, not to mention the songwriting. "He graduated from Wayne and lives not too far from campus. We know he is a proud alumnus and Detroiter. It made a lot of sense to give him this honor."
