Jase Bolger Is Not Hitler. As House Speaker, He's More Like Goofy With A Mean Streak.

The comparison of Republican House Speaker Jase Bolger to Adolf Hitler by L. Brooks Patterson also drew attention to Bolger's leadership, and the Free Press editorial page issued a stinking critique.

The page took issue with both the Lansing Repulicans' plan to strip welfare benefits from families with a truant child, tacked on to "an equally offensive bill" that would require welfare recipients to submit to drug screening.

"Even if you accept the nonsensical GOP belief that welfare recipients are lazy, feckless degenerates, this doesn’t add up. Part of the point of welfare is to ensure that children are taken care of, that the most vulnerable don’t have to suffer in circumstances over which they have no control. That, if you want to get biblical about it, punishment for the sins of the father isn’t visited on the child."

Bolger’s problems aren’t just in his ethical inconsistencies, the Free Press writes.

"His leadership of the state House has been ham-handed, at best. Bolger is either unable or unwilling to corral his party’s worst impulses. He has presided over some of the most disgraceful legislative proceedings in the state’s history (remember the right-to-work sham from last year), and has demonstrated time and again that he views the Michigan GOP as a vehicle to enact a dark and unforgiving agenda — despite ballot-box results that show the tea party holds sway over a diminishing share of the state’s electorate."
