Local musician Sixto Rodriguez of "Searching for Sugar Man" fame, graduated from Wayne State University more than 30 years ago with a philosophy degree.
On Thursday, he got another.
The university, at commencement ceremonies at Ford Field, gave Rodriguez an honorary doctoral degree -- a Doctor of Humane Letters for "his musical genius and commitment to social justice.'
WSU says in a press release:
Rodriguez, the star of the Oscar-winning documentary "Searching for Sugar Man," has remained politically involved and connected to the Detroit community, living humbly in the city, running for Detroit City Council and working to improve conditions for the inner-city working class.
