Donna Terek writes the secret nature of the Night Market is one of the reasons it is attractive to certain young Detroiters. All information is word-of-mouth, meaning social media is discouraged. The location is texted a couple of hours before the event.
This "guerrilla carnival" of artists and performers got its start in New York, moved to San Francisco and now has begun to appear Detroit with its secretive, insider-y air of a bunch of kids trying to pull off a prank on their teacher, tittering behind their hands all the while.
