Video: Mustang Tears Up Campus Martius As 'Need for Speed' Films

June 27, 2013, 4:37 PM

Downtown office workers got a taste of Hollywood on Thursday as the racing movie "Need for Speed" filmed around the Campus Martius area.

A silver Mustang with blue racing stripes, chased by a police car, zipped around the park numerous times throughout the day -- making thunderous noises and leaving behind tire marks.

The whole scene was a distraction -- albeit a welcome one -- for workers at  Compuware and Quicken Loans, some of whom undoubtedly lost  several precious moments of productivity rushing to the windows each time actor Aaron Paul's Mustang revved up. (Or was that just us at Deadline Detroit on the 14th floor?)

Paul, known best for his role as Jesse Pinkman in "Breaking Bad," wasn't actually driving, of course, but he was there. His character in the movie is attempting to flee the police. He stars in the movie alongside Dominic Cooper, Michael Keaton and Kid Cudi, among others.

The cast and crew is wrapping up production of the movie in the Motor City after beginning in California and Atlanta, according to On Location Vacations.

The crew shut down the streets around Campus Martius park for the day, but any pedestrians could have been filmed as extras if they wanted.

"Need for Speed," based off the successful video game series of the same name, is due for release next March.
