Tonight marks the fourth episode of AMC's new Detroit cop show "Low Winter Sun."

Deadline Detroit's Darrell Dawsey, Jeff Wattrick and Allan Lengel will be live blogging during the show that begins at 10 p.m.

Jeff:  Was that pimp Steven Segal? Because he had Steven Segal's hair.

Allan: Not feeling the suspense of Frank Agnew looking for his woman in Windsor.

Jeff: This doesn't seem like something a streetwise cop would do.

Darrell: I agree. That's my problem with how the cops and crooks move in this show much of the time.

Darrell: You'd think this guy would have contacts in Windsor, either on the street or in the PD, who could take him up the chain in the sex industry scene.

Jeff:  And that gun to the face is why that was a bad idea.

Allan: Joe Geddes accent still seems weird.

Jeff: This bar seems to sell a lot of coffee. That doesn't seem like a good business model.

Darrell: At home with mom. A troubled daughter. Somehow, the glimpses into Geddes' personal life are less interesting than they should be.

Allan: Finally a little more interesting twist for Joe Geddes with the intro of ex-wife and kid.

Darrell:  The "still living at home with your momma" crack was funny. Good barb, natural.

Darrell: Not sure if I buy the way the mom handed the daughter off to Geddes.

Jeff: I worry this show will get really good after people give up on it.

Darrell:  I worry that it won't get good if I stick with it.

Allan: I like the line from the bartender: "White's is white i don't care where y'all come from."

Jeff: Right, like where would you think rooms in the Raven Lounge would be located? it's not like that's a six-story building.

Darrell: The guys' interviews are horrible. Seems like they should know the answer to half their questions.

Darrell: LOL! Taking a swig while running from the cops...Probably not the surest way to escape. I like the exchange with the wino. "Got my own..." Nice.

Allan:  That was intense with the hand dipping in the pot of oil. Ouch!

Jeff: The  wino is an ex-cop, so i guess he knew how that would turn out. also, the wino ex-cop is going to be important like four episodes from now or something, right?

Allan: They have a few characters like that. We'll, see if they can pull that off

Allan: The great part about shooting in Detroit is there is never a shortage of places to film where there's murals or graffiti.

Jeff: Even odds they frame the murder on wino ex-cop.

Jeff:  I wonder if the Greektown as Chinatown bit seems as silly to non-Detroiters as it does to locals.

Darrell: The references to Greektown as some hub for this ratchet-ass organized crime "syndicate" grow more hilarious with each mention...

Allan: I like Joe Gedde's daughter. She's giving him a little more character. The show needs more of that.

Jeff: It would be cooler if the organized crime characters were based on the old detroit partnership. low-key, strictly business gangsters who fly under the radar.

Darrell: Rounding Geddes out is good...especially since I'm a little annoyed that, other than Geddes, there are no black people who matter much at this point.

Jeff: Agreed about the daughter. I think the strongest storyline is Agnew trying to "work the case" on a crime he committed. I'd like to see more of that and more of the tension with Geddes over letting it go cold vs. framing some sap.

Jeff: Yeah, what happened to the black crime boss?

Allan: Agreed. We need to see more of that boss, Rev. Low Down.

Darrell: Why do we need the stereotypical centralized "mob" anyway? That old-line mob style gave way to the new jacks with the rise of butch jones and the YBI. This could be a good chance to show a different paradigm.

Darrell:  OK...this dude has been robbing and killing all in the name of opening an after-hours bar? This is his big-ticket hustle??

Jeff:  Do big-time crime bosses go hassling low-level hoods running after hour joints?

Frank Agnew and a hooker

Jeff:  Some men have but modest dreams.

Darrell:  Yep. And Chris Rock had a term for them: "Low-expectation-havin' motherfuckers..."

Allan: I don't know. That scene with the hooker is interesting, but Frank Agnew's obsession with his woman doesn't have me on the edge of my seat. I want to feel like I'm on the edge of my seat.

Jeff In real life this girl would've been working out of Comfort Inn in Madison Heights.

Darrell:  That's probably because they haven't given a smidgen of a reason to think she's interesting. Is Agnew killing just because he's whipped? What is it about this woman?

Jeff:  I'm not totally sure why he's looking for this girl. This is the girl Geddes dropped off in WIndsor last episode, right? What was her significance again?

Allan: He was in love with her, but so what.  Besides love, she may have info dirt on Geddes and the dead cop, Brendan McCann. She may be able to give Agnew more insight into those two cops.

Darrell:  Dani Khalil...Lots of potential with her.

Allan: I agree. We need to see more of her.

Jeff: I hope they give Dani Khalil a crazy uncle who owns parking lots in Corktown.

Jeff:  This show reminds me of a Robert Altman film, Short Cuts. He strung together 8 or 9 Raymond Carver stories into a single narrative. The first two hours so dragged on despite good acting and writing, but then the last 45 minutes was amazing. I'm sticking with Low Winter Sun in the hopes of that kind of payoff.

Darrell: I'm watching Breaking Bad beforehand anyway so I don't mind hanging out with the show. But once Walt's situation is resolved, LWS will need to have picked up considerably if I'm expected to come back for another season.

Allan: I still feel it's worth sticking with it. Like I said before, the actors say by the 6th episode, the show is in full throttle. We shall see.

Jeff: Agreed. The chess pieces have been aligned. Now let's see an attack. Until, next week...
