It may be of little comfort to Sunsearae Hall that homicides in August in Detroit were down from the previous year.

Her 12-year-old son Kenis Green Jr. was shot to death Saturday morning around 1:15 a.m. on the city's west side at their home where they were celebrating a relative's birthday, Fox2's Taryn Asher reports.   .

Asher reported that a neighbor who had a beef with her 25-year-old boyfriend, Gregory Owens, pulled up in a burgundy van and sprayed the home with gunfire. The 12-year-old  was killed and Owens was hit in the stomach. He's listed in serious condition.

Asher reports that police have arrested the suspected gunman Alvin Conwell, who had recently accused Owens of hitting on his girlfriend. -- Allan Lengel
