Is That The Next Dan Gilbert Hovering Above Woodward?

September 25, 2013, 12:54 PM by  Allan Lengel

Is that Dan Gilbert Jr. we see plastered on a billboard at Woodward and Forest in Detroit?

Well, yes, sort of. The freshly scrubbed kid is on a United Way billboard that says:  "The Next Dan Gilbert, the Detroit of tomorrow starts with a donation today." It's part of the latest fundraising campaign by United Way for Southeastern Michigan that's focusing in particular on youth services and early childhood education in Metro Detroit.

That billboard is one of many that sport various local celebrity names plastered all around town with kids' photos with the same theme: "The next" so and so. On I-94 West in Detroit, there's one talking about the next Carmen Harlan.

Ursula Adams, the marketing director for the United Way, says the billboards began going up last week. To date, 35 are up and in all, 44 will be up.

Other notable names for the billboards include  Kid Rock, Matthew Stafford, Steve Yzerman, Gilda Radner, Mitch Albom, Kid Rock, Henry Ford,  Prince Fielder, Austin Jackson and Glover Quin.
