Cafe D'Mongo's Continues to Battle Graffiti

October 03, 2013, 10:02 AM

Larry Mongo, owner of the popular downtown Detroit watering hole Cafe D'Mongo's Speakeasy, is continuing to battle with a graffiti problem.

WXYZ's Smita Kalokhe reports that Mongo and his neighboring businesses recently spent thousands of dollars cleaning up paintings left by graffiti artists in April.

But now the grafitti is back, and the tag is identical to the one from before.

Mongo tells WXYZ that the Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy needs to be more aggressive about filing criminal charges in these cases.

Worthy told WXYZ that her office can only press charges if it receives the case from police, and nothing was filed in April.

Her office said most of the cases come from the Michigan State Police, not Detroit Police.
