Pure Detroit is going national, in a sense.

The hometown shop in the Guardian Building, Fisher Building and RenCen is the focus of a two-minute American Express video (below) promoting its yearly Small Business Saturday/Shop Small campaign, Amy Haimerl reports in Crain's.

"It's going to be blasted out through their digital platforms," said Ryan Patrick Hooper, Pure Detroit's creative director. "They are estimating about 2 million viewers through digital media and social platforms."

Pure Detroit, founded in 1998, is one of six companies featured separately by AmEx in a marketing effort that starts Monday.

As a tie-in, Haimerl writes, the retailer created a Detroit Small Business Passport offering discounts through January at its sites and 17 other area retailers listed in her article (link below).

The fourth annual Small Business Saturday, which is Nov. 30, encourages consumers to "give back to the places that have given their communities so much," as AmEx puts it on the campaign's site.
