Azzam Elder, Once The Power Behind The Throne, Moves Beyond Bob Ficano

Known for years as the power behind Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano, Azzam Elder straddled the policy and political worlds on issues such as the expansion of Cobo Center, the purchase of the historic Guardian Building and even the hiring and promoting of key county employees, writes John Wisely in the Free Press.

But two years ago, his fast-rising career crashed in a severance scandal that turned into a corruption scandal. And Elder has remained mostly invisible in local government circles since leaving the county in November 2011 under a dark cloud.

But now, Elder appears to be re-emerging.

He has increased his online presence and opened a law practice alongside his brother’s law firm in Dearborn, touting himself as an expert in health care law. He even attended the victory party for Detroit mayor-elect Mike Duggan.
