Video: Detroit Scenes Fill Red Bull House of Art Grammy Awards Ad

January 25, 2014, 5:37 PM

A 30-second version of this video sponsored by Red Bull will be seen in major TV markets Sunday night during the 56th annual Grammy Awards on CBS, Angela Lopez reports in the Free Press.

Stunning black-and-white Detroit cityscapes set the tone of a new Red Bull ad featuring native Detroiter and artist Tylonn Sawyer.

The 30-second spot . . . also features some of the people Sawyer has painted (including local gallery owner George N’Namdi).

Others who can be glimpsed include Jason Hall, co-founder of Detroit Bike City, and photographer Joe Gall.

Sawyer, a 37-year-old EMU graduate, is among local artists invited to work and exhibit temporarily at the Red Bull House of Art, open since May 2012 on Winder near Eastern Market. Last year he created and displayed a portrait series called "Faces of Detroit."

His spot will run on 10 networks and cable channels through March 2, according to Lopez.

The Detroit campaign is part of a series that features athletes and individuals from various cities.
