Every year, just like The Great Pumpkin or Mr. Hankey, our good friend Paczki the paczek comes to town for a Fat Tuesday tour of Detroit. In the past, we've shown him the ruins, the signs of city's redemption, and landmarks from the city's recent political scandals. Look, we know this is totally dumb but it's still better than pretty much every other Paczki Day media gimmick.
This year, because it's stupid cold out and everything is covered with snow, we gave Paczki a short tour of our winter wonderland delights.
Here it is, your annual gallery of a doughnut next to things in Detroit.
It's cold outside, so we warmed up with some coffee from the Roasting Plant. Packzi was impressed with how the coffee beans were in all those tubes. As something born with at least 11 grams of sugar and 13 grams of fat, Paczki took his java black.
Here is Packzi going for skate in Campus Martius. Thankfully, he was able to avoid hockey sticks.
Then he went tobogganing on this snow pile. It's not Balduck Park, but for a small ethnic pastry, this is a substantial hill. He used an old Potbelly's sandwich bag as a sled.
After a long day outside, we ducked into a People Mover station to warm up.
Paczki watches ice float down the Detroit River. We promised to take him to the Windsor Ballet for Fat Tuesday 2015.
Paczki found Hart Plaza's Labor Monument perfect for some winter camping. The stone things were kind of like an ice cave.
