Freep: Mob Beat Driver After He Struck Boy And Stole His Money

Updated: Thursday, 6:25 -- The Detroit Free Press is reporting that a group of men that beat a motorist unconscious after the accident stole his money and credit cards.

The paper talked to the 54-year-old victim's 20-year-old daughter, who said her father, a tree trimmer, didn't deserve what happened. She told the paper her father has no health insurance and the family planned to have a fundraiser to cover the costs.

An angry mob on Detroit's east side on Wednesday seriously beat a driver, who struck and injured an 11-year-old boy.

The boy had stepped into the street and was hit. Police concluded that the driver was not at fault,  Christine Ferretti of The Detroit News reports. The boy was treated for a broken leg. The driver is in critical condition.

Police said about 12 people were involved in the beat-down.

Police said the incident happened around 4:10  p.m. on Morang Drive. The driver, in his 50s, stepped out of his car to check on the boy when he was beaten.

Police are investigating.
