It Was A Shaky Proposition This Year, But Wings Finally Clinch Playoff Spot

April 09, 2014, 10:51 PM

This season was anything but a sure thing.

There was plenty nail biting and fear this season that the Red Wings, after 22 consecutive years of making the playoffs, would be sitting this one out.

But this team has some fight in it.

And Wednesday, it locked up a playoff spot after getting a point in its 4-3 loss against Pittsburgh at the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh.

WDIV reported that the Wings clinched a playoff spot for the 23rd consecutive year when Tomas Jurco scored his second of the game at 18:45 in the 3rd period to force overtime. The score was tied 3-3.

The Penguins won the game 4-3 in a shootout. But the one point was enough for the Wings.  - A.L.
