April 11, 2014, 7:29 AM

The youth who was shot and killed on Wednesday while breaking into a home in Detroit on Ashbury Park was 15 years old, Fox 2 reports.

The homeowner opened fire,  striking the boy and a 19-year-old female.  The two broke a window to enter the home.

The boy was identified as Damontae Moorer, Fox 2 reported. The female suspect was struck in the leg.

Fox 2 reports on its website:

Jarmain Scott, a Motor City Youth football coach, says his first practice with Moorer was that day. He says Moorer skipped practice to go meet the girl even though he tried to talk him out of it, apparently having a bad feeling about it.

The station reports that the boy's mother says the girl knew the homeowner and was breaking into retrieve some of her belongings.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig defended homeonwers standing their ground Thursday night on Fox 2's "Let It Rip."  -- A.L.
