Video: DNR Showcases Belle Isle Fix-Up

April 18, 2014, 7:25 AM

The DNR posts a video that shows crews making key infrastructure improvements on Bell Isle, including long-needed repairs to restrooms --  fixing leaking pipes, broken water lines, broken fixtures, and adding heating units and painting walls.

One arresting image is water running out of several pipes in a nasty restroom.

The island became the 102nd state park in February.

The video, first reported by Curbed Detroit, shows the goal is to get the facilities in shape for the spring and summer.

Also getting TLC are the casino building, former White House and conservatory.
