Lengel: Dems Like Gary Peters Need to Stop Being Wimps and Stand Up for Obamacare

May 07, 2014, 3:34 PM by  Allan Lengel

By now, if you watch any TV at all, you've been bombarded by anti-Gary Peters ads urging you to call the Democratic Congressman and tell him to stop supporting Obamacare.

It urges Gary Peters, who is running for U.S. Senate in Michigan,  to start listening to the American people.

For a moment, when I hear those ads, which are paid for by the greatest of all Americans, the Koch brothers, I have to pause and say to myself: "Wait a minute, I'm an American and I'm in favor of Obamacare."

I also ask myself repeatedly: "Why have the Democrats run for cover this election year when there is story after story of those who have greatly benefited from Obamacare?" All you have to do is go on a site called Obama Care Facts and read testimonials of citizens.

Granted, Obamacare is far from perfect and certainly needs some fixing. And yes, it was one big disgrace when President Obama kept saying people could keep their policy if they liked. You clearly got the feeling that he didn't even know everything about his own plan.

That being said, why are the Democrats being so wimpy and running for cover over a policy they supported, and one that certainly has plenty upsides?

Why isn't Gary Peters running commercials showing those who have benefited, those who never had insurance who can now get proper care; those who had been previously denied insurance because of pre-existing conditions?

Sure, you can find people who had better policies before Obamacare. But you also hear endless stories of poor people who finally have the proper medical care.

As Democrats, either you think Obamacare is a good thing worth keeping, or you don't.

If you don't, folks like Gary Peters need to join the Republican ranks an repeal it.

If not, Democrarts like Peters need to stand up tall , stop hiding in the bunkers, waiting for the anti-Obamacare bombs to stop dropping.

Either you believe your vote for Obamacare was right or it wasn't.

What's it going to be, Congressman Peters?
