Today from 2-3:30pm, technically and civically inclined Detroiters will come together for Code for America’s National Day of Civic Hacking at the M@dison Building, 1555 Broadway, Detroit.
Code for America's goal is to liberate publicly owned data from government silos, so that governments, businesses, non-profits, and citizens can use the data to better benefit the public.
The event is free, and will feature rapid-fire presentations from data-leaders in various fields. Speakers include Michael Evans of Loveland Technologies, who wrote the code behind the just-released Motor City Mapping project, and Eric Anderson of Excellent Schools, who will speak about open data in education.
After the presentations, Startup Drinks, a non-networking networking event for entrepreneurs and techies, will assemble at Angelina’s Bistro. There, they will pontificate on how to “Mobilize Citizen Engagement” or “Create a Civic Tech Ecosystem”.
Disclosure: The author is a member of the Detroit Brigade of Code for America, and will be MCing the event.
