Now Comes Some Good News: Mayor Bing to Raze 1,500 Abandoned Structures by September

Amid all the turbulence and controversy in the city, Detroit Mayor Dave Bing is delivering some good news today.

The mayor will announce plans to raze 1,500 dangerous and abandoned structures across the by the end of September in what is part of his Summer 2012 Demolition Plan.

A press release issued by the mayor's office said Bing will make his announcement at 2 p.m. at the site where the demolition of 10 structures will begin today at 15310 Coram, between Hayes and Brock, near Denby High School on Detroit's east side.

According to the city, the Bing administration, to date, has removed more than 4,500 dangerous and abandoned buildings in the city. -- A.L.
