Inkster Police Chief Hilton Napoleon wants some help from his brother Benny Napoleon, the Wayne County Sheriff.
Steve Pardo of the Detroit News writes that Hilton wants his brother's sheriff's office to absorb his 24-member department.
Inkster, with a population of 25,000 is under a financial consent decree with the state and has seen its force dwindle from 73 a few years ago to 25, the News reports.
“We cannot continue to operate with the number officers of we have. These officers are getting burned out,” Hilton Napoleon told Wayne County commissioners. “Everybody is doing much, much more with less.”
The News writes, under the plan, Inkster would pay the county the roughly roughly $2.6 million police budget, and officers would need to apply to become deputies.
