DPD Has Person Of Interest In 3 Palmer Park Transgender Hate Crimes

August 21, 2014, 7:33 AM

Jim Kiertzner reports on WXYZ-TV that Detroit Police are talking to a person of interest in connection with the three hate crimes against transgender women in the Palmer Park area.

One of the crimes was a murder; the body was discovered in the park Friday. Police recovered a gun in that incident when the presumed perpetrator drove off and crashed into another car before he feld on foot.

Two other shootings took place last week and Sunday.

Palmer Park is located along Woodward Avenue, between 6 and 7 Mile. Steve Neavling reports on Motor City Muckraker that Equality Michigan, a gay rights group, called for an investigation in November into the murder of a transgender woman in Detroit after her body was discovered in a trash can behind a bar on Woodward near McNichols in November.
