A 23-year-old teacher at Chippewa Valley High School in Clinton Township is in big trouble.

Christopher Cowles, 23, is being held in the Macomb County Jail on a charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct for allegedly having inappropriate sexual contact with a 16-year-old female student last year, Norb Franz of the Oakland Press reports.

Cowles, 23, was arraigned on Friday in 41B District Court in Macomb County, the paper reported.

The charges stem from alleged contact Cowles had with a female student in early 2014. It's not clear how many encounts he had with the teenager, who is now 17.

The girl's mother contacted police about a month ago.

The paper reports:

Cowles, a career and technical education teacher, was placed on administrative leave Jan. 12 after police notified school administrators they were investigating allegations that he may have been involved in an inappropriate relationship with one of his female students, district officials said in an email to Chippewa Valley High School parents and staff.
