Fox 2's M.L. Elrick debates Alexis Wiley, mayor Duggan's chief of staff, about a Detroit Free Press story giving the mayor heartburn.
The Freep reported last Monday that Duggan showed favoritism and used city resources to raise money for Make Your Date, a Wayne State University program to reduce infant mortality. It's headed by Dr. Sonia Hassan, who has been rumored to be romantically linked to Duggan. The city's inspector general is looking into the matter.
Wiley thinks the story was misleading and unfair. Elrick agrees in part, but wonders why the mayor wasn't more transparent and didn't meet face-to-face with the paper. Elrick says he looked into the same story last year and decided to pass, saying he didn't find improper use of city funds.
