The former St. Clair Shores home of punk rocker Patti Smith and her late husband Fred “Sonic” Smith of the MC5 is on the market for $499,900.

The 2,116-square-foot home at 22501 Beach St., built in 1918, has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. An addiition was added later.

The listing describes a "storybook" canal front home with 100 feet of frontage.

Smith's 36-year-old son, Jackson Smith, of the Johnstone & Johnstone real estate firm, is the Realtor -- and grew up in the home. He works for a Grosse Pointe Farms real estate agency.

Patti Smith and her husband lived there from 1980-94, Jackson Smith said. He tells Deadine Detroit his dad passed in 1994, and his mom, now 72, stayed there two more years before moving to New York, where she currently resides.

She kept ownership until 2015. The current owners prefer to remain anonymous.

We first saw this listing in Curbed Detroit.
