Cocktails start flowing Saturday at a sleek gathering spot for couples, tourists, friends and colleagues atop the renovated Metropolitan Building in downtown Detroit.

Melody Baetens takes a look at the Monarch Club in The Detroit News:

The club overlooking the city has a bar and a variety of lounge-style seating inside, plus four outdoor spaces with seating and fireplaces, including a terrace that overlooks Comerica Park.

It's a rooftop bar like no other in town. Besides being higher up than most, it offers views in four directions and will be open to the public seven nights a week.

The newcomer will be "offering great drinks and even greater views," it posts.

The 1925 landmark at 33 John R St. near Grand Circus Park also is home to the new Element Hotel.

The Monarch has three terraces, plus indoor bar seats and lounge areas with couches, armchairs and tables. Offerings will include beer, wine and a small-plates menu with brisket sliders, poutine, meatballs and other snacks priced at $10-$16, writes Baetens, who adds:

There's no dress code, and sports fans on the way to a game may feel just at home as a couple headed to the opera.
