Police at the crime scene last week.

Here's one of those insane crimes that goes to the heart of mental illness or substance abuse -- or both.

You might recall last week that two men assaulted and shot and wounded a 40-year-old customer at Nicky D's Coney at 7 Mile and Greenfield in northwest Detroit after letting it be known how outraged they were that the restaurant didn't serve fried mushrooms. The assault was videotaped.

"'What type of [expletive] Coney don't sell fried mushrooms?' That's exactly what they said to us," one employee told Fox 2.

On Sunday, 61-year-old twins Dwight Samuels and Duane Samuels, both of Detroit, were arraigned in 34th District Court in Romulus on charges of assault with intent to murder, assault with Intent to do great bodily harm, felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and felony firearm.
