One of Dan Gilbert's sons is having a bar mitzvah the last weekend in August.

If Gilbert, the founder of Quicken Loans, shows up, it would be his first big public appearance since a stroke May 26.

The religious service marking son Nash's 13th birthday is Friday night, Aug. 30,  and the party is the next day. For privacy, Deadline Detroit is not disclosing the locations.

A spokesman for Quicken Loans did not return phone and email requests for comment.

Gilbert, 57, moved back from Chicago to Detroit on Aug. 16 to continue his rehab regimen, two weeks before the bar mitzvah.

Gilbert recently released an in-house video for employees in which he spoke briefly. "Whatever you're doing is great," he said. "It's going much better since I left a few weeks back, I noticed."

In the Jewish faith, a boy has a bar mitzvah when he's 13, marking a passage in life when he's considered a man. Gilbert and his wife Jennifer have five children.
