Police are investigating after a St. Clair County orchard said hundreds of its pumpkins were stolen overnight.

McCallum’s Orchard and Cider Mill says about 350 pumpkins were taken.

Owner Ray Peliter would like to see the pumpkins returned, he tells The Times Herald.

“It’s not a pumpkin to us, it’s memories,” he said, memories of painting the pumpkin with your grandma or child or other loved one.

If the people who stole the pumpkins were to bring them back, they wouldn’t just be replacing the pumpkins.

“They’d be replacing dreams,” he said.

St. Clair authorities believe the thief nabbed the pumpkins Oct. 7 between 2:30am and 7am.
