Video: Tracing the Popularity of Almond Boneless Chicken in Michigan

October 14, 2019, 5:04 PM

I grew up on Cantonese-style Chinese food in Detroit. For my family, Sunday dinner at Wing Hong at 10 Mile and Southfield usually meant two orders of almond boneless chicken, egg rolls and wonton soup. When I moved to Oregon for a while, I discovered Szechuan-style Chinese food.

Over the years, almond boneless chicken (aka ABC) has become incredibly popular in Metro Detroit and beyond.

Detroit Public TV's show "One Detroit" has a six-minute report on how the dish supposedly got its start here in Michigan.
