Now that an early snowscape sets the scene for next month's holidays, the timing seems apt as Detroit Winter Markets start a third season downtown Wednesday.

Seventeen local vendors will sell food, decor items, garments, fashion accessories, candles, glasswear and pet items each Wednesday through Sunday until Jan. 1 at heated booths in Cadillac Square.

Also returning is Cadillac Lodge, a lounge with beer, hard cider, snacks and other refreshments that will stay open until Jan. 26, again with Wednesday-Sunday hours (listed below). Smores kits will be available for use at fire pits outside. Private events will be booked there some Mondays and Tuesdays.

At Capitol Park, Greystone Gardens of Armada again will offer evergreen trees, wreaths and holiday greenery. "Outdoor seating with fireplace lounges and large-scale holiday decor will complement the space," says an announcement from Bedrock, which co-sponsors the annual attraction with the Quicken Loans Community Fund. (Vendors rent booths. None will be at the 1001 Woodward building and another nearby storefront, unlike in past years.)

"Each business featured in the Downtown Detroit Markets is Detroit-based, female-owned or minority-owned," adds the news release.  Merchandise includes fiber artwork, dolls, jewelry and temporary tattoos.

Among the entrepreneurs are Detroit Fiber Works, Lush Yummies Pie Co., Mongers' Provisions, SMPLFD (streetwear brand), Detroit Dough, Eli Tea and Good Cakes & Bakes.
