A pop-up shop celebrating dark skin has landed in Detroit just in time for the holidays.

Eumelanin, by Detroit-based chemist and educator Deirdre Roberson, is a clothing brand named after “the most abundant type of melanin, found in brown and black skin and hair.”

At her retail store on Michigan Avenue in Corktown, open through December, Roberson sells shirts in different shades of black and brown that showcase the chemical structure of melanin.

The brand, Roberson tells BlackDoctor.org, marries her love of science and black pride.

“I wanted to point to the specific types of melanin that really makes us our skin tones rich and beautiful as Black people,” she tells the website.

Roberson expects to soon expand the line into Macy’s stores.

Location and additional information is available here.
