Video: Florida boy takes tribute run for slain Detroit officer

November 22, 2019, 12:53 PM

A Florida boy who runs in tribute of "fallen heroes" took a one-mile run around his elementary school this week for Detroit police officer Rasheen McClain, who was killed Wednesday while responding to a domestic issue.

Ten-year-old Zechariah Cartledge posted video of the run to Facebook Thursday night. In the video, he explains he's been dedicating his runs to officers who were killed in 2018, but made an exception for McClain.

A nonprofit, Running 4 Heroes, backs Cartledge's endeavor, using proceeds raised to pay for the flags he runs with. He'll present his flag to McClain's family in the coming weeks, the video says.
