Detroit police: Officer accidentally shot relative

Detroit police are reportedly investigating a Thursday incident in which an off-duty officer's gun went off, shooting and seriously wounding her 20-year-old relative.

It happened downtown near Grand Circus Park at 10:30 p.m.,The Detroit News reports.

Police say preliminarily that the officer's weapon discharged as she was moving it. She told them it was an accident.

The victim, a woman, was transported to the hospital.
