Friday night marks your yearly opportunity to fill up on soup so others can do the same.

The Empty Bowls fundraiser to support food programs at Detroit's Cass Community Services gets underway in Eastern Market Shed 5 at 5 p.m.

Guests will be treated to hearty, inspired soups from some of Detroit's top restaurants. Sponsors include the Apparatus Room, Grey Ghost, Shewolf and Selden Standard. As a bonus, local celebrity servers will be on ladel duty, including media moguls Allan Lengel and Craig Fahle of Deadline Detroit.

Bread, cheese, beer, wine and desserts are also on the menu, as is live entertainment. And each guest gets to take home a hand-painted bowl — a reminder that someone’s bowl is always empty.

Tickets are $55 in advance and $65 at the door. More information is at emptybowlsdetroit.com.
