CNN's Sanjay Gupta

As the medical reporter for CNN, these are the moments you live for when you can use your expertise to explain to mass audiences about a medical crisis.

Sanjay Gupta, a Michigan native, has become a fixture of late on CNN with the outbreak of the coronavirus. He's also launched a podcast on the outbreak, and on Thursday night, he appeared on "Late Show With Stephen Colbert," minus an audience because of the virus.

Gupta, 50, a practicing neurosurgeon at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, graduated from Novi High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical sciences ('89) and a medical degree ('93) from the University of Michigan.

His parents, Subhash and Damyanti Gupta, moved from India before their marriage to work for Ford Motor Co. They met in Livonia.
