Rheamie Crenshaw of Metro Detroit spent a week at Beaumont Hospital Dearborn battling COVID-19. She's better now and tells her story to WDIV.

"At the very worst part of it, it’s like you are underwater gasping for air and someone is dunking your head,” the 49-year-old said. “It feels like you are slowly suffocating while trying to breathe or even talk."

She started feeling ill March 12 with aches, sweats and chills. Any food or beverage tasted like metal or salt.

She was hospitalized March 19 with viral pneumonia in both lungs. After treatment that included an oxygen ventilator, she was and released last Wednesday, March 25.

She speaks of focusing on prayer and staying positive. Crenshaw is a kidney cancer survivor and diabetic who has asthma.
