The son was arrested on this street in D.C., about 1.5 miles from the Capitol.

Robert Grimes says his 25-year-old son shouldn't be mistaken for being one of the pro-Trump rioters in D.C. The father, a self-described liberal, is concerned about protecting the family name, the Detroit Free Press reports.

The son, Logan Grimes of Grand Rapids, was arrested Wednesday in the 1000 block of Vermont Avenue NW in Washington, D.C., about 1.5 miles from the capitol. He's charged with carrying a pistol without a license, possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device, and possession of unregistered ammunition.

The father, who lives in Cadillac, tells the Freep his son is not a supporter of President Donald Trump and  keeps an eye on groups such as the Proud Boys. He said his son, who is transgender and has been active in Black Lives Matter, was there to protest the Trump supporters.

“We're a very progressive liberal family … if there's any reason my son was even present, it's because of his stand against what a lot of those folks who did horrible things yesterday (believe) — and I'm still sick to my stomach (from) when I saw it on TV last night.”
