Beaumont Health tripled server capacity over the weekend after its website crashed Friday amid intense interest in getting the Covid vaccine, the Detroit News reports.

Hans Keil, chief information officer, says the eight-hospital system plans to expand website capacity even more.

The surge came after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced last week that vaccinations would be available to people 65 and older. Beaumont said it will begin vaccinating people 65 and older Monday by appointment at a drive-through Southfield center.

It posted:

Beaumont will begin sending invitations to schedule vaccine appointments to people 65 and older starting the week of Jan. 11. There are no walk-in appointments at any Beaumont location.

Due to overwhelming demand, we are unable to answer individual phone calls or emails about the vaccine or myBeaumontChart. Please review our regularly updated Frequently Asked Questions about the vaccine.
