UpdateMarvin Hagler's Wife: The Covid Vaccine Did Not Kill My Husband

Before middleweight champion boxer Marvin Hagler passed on Saturday, Detroit's Thomas Hearns posted on Instagram:

'A real true warrior Pray for the king and his family.. he’s in ICU fighting the after effects of the vaccine! He’ll be just fine but we could use the positive energy and Prayer for his Full Recovery!'

Hagler's family subsequently announced that the 66-year-old boxer, who finished Hearns off in three rounds in a legendary 1985 fight, had died of "natural causes" and made no mention of a vaccine, reports The Daily Mail, a United Kingdom newspaper. No cause of death has been released.

Nonetheless, The Guardian reports that anti-vaxxers have jumped on Hearn's comment as proof that the Covid vaccine is dangerous.

Hearns subsequently posted on social media:

"Allow us to have our peace. Our love and respect to Marvin and his family, this is not an anti vaccine campaign … It’s outrageous to have that in mind during the passing of a King, Legend, Father, Husband and so much more."

Hagler's wife Kay Hagler posted on Facebook:

I am sorry to make a very sad announcement. Today unfortunately my beloved husband Marvelous Marvin passed away...

TMZ reported Saturday:

One of Hagler's sons, James, tells TMZ his father was taken to a hospital in New Hampshire earlier on Saturday after experiencing trouble breathing and chest pains at home. We're told about four hours later, the family was notified he'd passed away. A cause of death is still unknown at this point ... it's also unclear if Hagler's death is Covid-related.

Hagler and Hearns battled in the ring in 1985 for about eight minutes in what some boxing fans say is one of the greatest contests in boxing history. Hagler won in the third round after it looked like Hearns might win. (See below)
