Detroit Digest: Mudgie's, a Corktown Gem That Takes Sandwiches Seriously

March 19, 2021, 10:51 PM

When you think of serious sandwiches in Detroit, Mudgie's Deli & Wine Shop in Corktown is one place that certainly comes to mind.

Tucked into a cozy neighborhood at 1417 Brooklyn St., east of Trumbull, the restaurant and bar with a welcoming patio serves sandiwches that leave you wanting for little.

There's the Barrett (pictured) with corned beef or pastrami, creamy coleslaw, Swiss cheese and Thousand Island dressing on an onion roll. And there's the Muffuletta with Calabrese salami, prosciutto, Michigan Yale bologna, provolone cheese, house giardiniera and olive tapenade on Sicilian sesame bread.

Vegetarian options include a Vegan Reuben with grilled marinated tempeh and the Hippie Dippie with avocado, baby spinach, sunflower sprouts, walnuts, dried cranberries, diced apples, shredded carrots and cucumber rolled in whole wheat flat bread. The menu also has hearty soups and salads.

Detroit Digest host Carlos Parisi stopped by this week to taste some of his favorites. See the video below.
