An $18.5-million development planned for the southern edge of Woodbridge along Trumbull Avenue would convert a swath of mostly vacant land into 65 townhomes.
The site between Selden and Brainard streets once included a grand home that belonged to the Scripps famly, whose partriarch founded the Detroit News. The mansion was reportedly lost to arson in the 1980s, but a surviving powerhouse structure designed by Albert Kahn will be converted into a townhome as part of the development.
According to Crain's, the development team includes Detroit-based Tekton — which is behind another modern housing concept in historic Woodbridge — and Detroit-based Civic Companies LLC and Bloomfield Hills-based Robertson Bros. They seek at least $2.4 million in tax incentives for the project.
