Michigan lawmakers approve bill to end fall-back and spring-forward time changes

If you're anything like us, you spend the second half of every March groggy, having been cheated out of an hour of sleep by Uncle Sam.

But there's a glimmer of hope that spring forward eventually may be a thing of the past for Michiganders.

The state House voted Tuesday to keep Michigan on one set time year-round, pending action in Congress, where there's bipartisan support to move to a permanent Daylight Saving Time model. Right now, almost all states switch between that and standard time each spring and fall. 

The bill would also only go into effect if our neighbors — Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania — all decided to move to a year-round Daylight Saving Time.

Fourteen states have reportedly approved legislation to make the switch with federal approval, including Ohio. Such legislation is pending in Illinois and Pennsylvania.
