The Detroit Tigers are in second from last place in the Central Division. It's another lackluster season.

But there have been some bright spots already, and one of those came Tuesday night when pitcher Spencer Turnbull threw a no-hitter on the west coast to blank the Seattle Mariners 5-0. It was the major league's fifth no-hitter of the season.

The last Tigers' no-hitter came on May 7, 2011, when Justin Verlander beat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-0.

Turnbull, 28, struck out nine, including Mitch Haniger for the final out, and walked just two batters, according to the Tigers' website. He threw 117 pitches.

Interestingly, the Alabama native lost 17 games in 2019 for the Tigers, a major league high that year.
