Former University of Michigan football star Jon Vaughn, who says he was abused by school's doctor Robert Anderson is angry at Coach Jim Harbaugh for defending the late Bo Schembechler.

A law firm's report last month found that a number of former athletes told investigators they informed Schembechler about Anderson's abuse of athletes during examinations. Still, Anderson remained on the job.

Some have called for the school to remove a statue of Schembechler, who was coach from 1969-89, and other reminders of his legacy.

Asked how the school should handle Schembechler's legacy, Harbaugh said last Thursday: according to the Detroit Free Press:

"Bo Schembechler ... there was nothing that I saw in the times when I was a kid here, my dad was on staff or when I played here ... He never sat on anything. He never procrastinated on anything. He took care of it before the sun went down. That's the Bo Schembechler that I know.

"There's nothing that ever was swept under the rug or ignored. He addressed everything in a timely fashion. That's the Bo Schembechler that I knew." [From the Detroit Free Press]

An angry Vaughn, 51, responded the next day, telling the Freep:

“I thought it was completely heartless. He’s not a representative of the players. So, why is that he makes these comments as if he is an authority speaking for all of us because he is one of us? You say you knew Bo one way and we say we knew him another — you have more credibility in that?”

Schembechler died in 2006. Dr. Anderson passed in 2008.
