President Biden Visits Traverse City Area Saturday as Cherry Festival Returns

The start of the Cherry Fesitval on Saturday will have a different feel this year. President Joe Biden visits the area, adding excitement as well as traffic.

Biden visited King Orchards in neighboring Antrim County in the early afternoon with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters.

Cherry Festival executive director Kat Paye tells The Detroit News there have been rumor circulating that Biden might visit the festival. “We haven’t heard a thing. But we’ll be ready if he does.” 

Michigan orchards are at risk from climate change, and Biden chose the cherry-growing area to reinforce his call for investing in clean energy to fight warming.

The trip is part of Biden's nationwide “America’s Back Together” tour. The White House on Friday night released his schedule:

12:15 p.m. -- Arrives in Traverse City, Michigan Cherry Capital Airport

12:35 p.m. -- Dparts Traverse City en route Antrim County 

12:50 p.m. -- Arrives at the Antrim County Airport

1:25 p.m. -- Tours a local cherry farm with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Sen. Debbie Stabenow and Sen.  Gary Peters

3 p.m. -- Departs Antrim County en route Traverse City

3:15 p.m. --Arrives at Traverse City, Michigan Cherry Capital Airport

4:35 p.m. -- Departs Traverse City en route Wilmington, Delaware
