Hiker Dies After Falling Off Cliff in Michigan's Upper Peninsula

A 75-year-old hiker died Monday after falling off a cliff at the Sturgeon River Gorge in the Upper Peninsula, TV 6 reports.

Douglas Brent Welker, of Pelkie, a community in the Upper Peninsula, was on a trail in Houghton County's Laird Township when he slipped near a 20-foot high cliff, the station reports.

He struck his head and died at the scene.
