This year's Detroit Jazz Festival was supposed to get back to "normal" -- held outdoors, in front of live audiences who would stroll downtown and enjoy all that comes with summer's end.
But with Covid surging, a decision was made to go virtual again, but with a twist: The artists would play here, but to empty seats, and the rest of us would watch through screens. After day one, things seem to run smoothly. The festival website has information on how to stream. Viewers can also watch via its Facebook and YouTube pages.
Deadline Detroit photographer Michael Lucido stopped by and took all the pictures below, except where otherwise indicated.
